On Pentecost Saturday, 9,000 worshippers are expected to gather at Leyton Orient to pray for the 2012 Games.

Branded Light the Fire, it will bring together Christians from different churches across London and beyond.

Also joining in will be worship leaders including Jason Upton, Noel Robinson and Godfrey Birtill  – and prayer leaders such as Rachel Hickson (Heartcry), Elcio Lodos (International House of Prayer, London), and Jonathan Oloyede (Global Day of Prayer).

Light the Fire is part of a wider vision called London’s Burning 2012 which began at The Cornerstone Church in Leyton as a response to God’s call for a worship and prayer initiative in the area.

Christians there felt that just as the Great Fire of London ended the Black Death by cleansing the city, so it seemed that God was wanting to release love “blazing like a mighty fire” over the capital and then the UK , bringing joy, healing and life.

This year is an exciting time for London and the UK. God has given the Church an amazing opportunity to share his love with the thousands of visitors flocking to the capital.

Already 24/7 prayer and worship nights are preparing the way. We’re really excited about all that God has in store.

London’s Burning is partnering with Burn 24-7 to hold 30 days of non-stop worship and prayer, starting on 14 July and running throughout the Olympics. Monthly ‘Burn’ nights of worship and prayer have already started in central and East London.

London’s Burning is also working with Healing on the Streets (HOTS) so that visitors to the Olympics have the opportunity to encounter God’s healing love.

Many churches have signed up for tickets to Light the Fire and are arranging to send HOTS missionaries, intercessors and worshippers for the events scheduled during the Games.
