What is it like to be a woman in a man’s world? There are a variety of answers to that question. It all depends on who that woman is and where they live. This is a story of a woman who grew up in turbulent times in what was Belgium Congo, but now is modern Zaire. The mixture of colonial rule, the chaotic bloody path to independence and deeply rooted tribal customs, made this a difficult time to be a woman in Africa.

This book tells a compelling story of a woman who manages to excel in this unpromising environment. This is a man’s world, where less is expected of women, a world where women are objectified as targets for unwelcome sexual overtures.

Mama Monique manages to navigate these choppy waters, despite the odds being stacked against her. She seems to live a life that takes a leaf out of the story of the ideal woman depicted in Proverbs 31. She manages to juggle the roles of dutiful daughter, wife, mother, teacher, church leader and entrepreneur with vision, discipline, and energy. The breakthrough in her life was the discovery of the nature of abundant life that is found in Jesus.

This book tells the story of a hard but fruitful life that has done much to empower and equip other women to provide for themselves and their families. This is an informative and inspirational read.
