The author quotes the well-known statement by A.W. Tozer: “Whatever comes into your mind when you think of God is the most important thing about you.”

I agree. This is a book that seeks to help the reader have many thoughts about God.

In 12 chapters, Truth on Fire introduces us to a variety of key themes about God.

The author is keen for the reader to know more about God, but is even more concerned that we experience more of God in our lives. Here we explore truth that it designed to catch fire in our imaginations so that we can delight in God and get to know him better.

One of my favourite chapter is God is happy, in which he writes:

“Some Christians are serious about everything in their life, except for their joy.”

Although this chapter is followed by the idea of God being victorious, the author has perhaps missed an opportunity to tease out the dilemma of being happy in a world that is so sad.

Preachers will enjoy this book because the faint skeleton of preached words continues to be visible in its pages. The author has a nice turn of phrase. Perhaps there could have been a few more up-to-date illustrations, and I wonder what British readers will make out of the baseball reference.

All in all a thoughtful book that informs and warms.
