Before you start singing You’ve Got a Friend in Me, from Toy Story, the author is not that Randy Newman! Instead he has written a very helpful book that provides 10 lessons for evangelism from the writings of CS Lewis.

The title Mere Evangelism is a variation on Lewis’s book Mere Christianity, that brought together in written form his famous wartime radio broadcast on the Christian faith.

“People listened to Lewis not because of his impressive qualifications but because he spoke in ways that made sense to them. We read his fiction today because it takes us to a land beyond a wardrobe. He appeals to our whole selves.”

Newman shows us how Lewis addresses our questions, meets our objections, appeals to our love of imagery, tells us stories, and speaks to and reshapes our heart’s desires. Lewis reaches us because he speaks with a very engaging human voice that is authentic, humorous, and compelling.

What I found most helpful about this book was the reminder that in the attempt to reach different people with the gospel, we need to see that we need different strategies for preparing to share the gospel.

If you want to freshen up your approach to evangelism get this book and learn these lessons from a master communicator.
