Tim Thornborough – God’s Very Colourful Creation (Illustrated by Jennifer Davison)
The Good Book Company
ISBN 978 1 7849 633 9
A fun, beautifully illustrated retelling of Genesis 1-2 for 2-6-year olds. The book follows the seven days of creation account in Genesis, describing what is created at each stage using a rich variety of words describing the unfolding multi-coloured tapestry of creation.
The words and pictures work together well in evoking the wonder and beauty of God’s handiwork. I am sure that young children will enjoy seeing the pictures and hearing the colourful story with it’s the synonyms for various colours mingling on the page.
It is fun to read out loud, trying to get your tongue around all the words for blue like azure, cobalt and periwinkle, will enrich the vocabulary and raise a few smiles.
The book is clearly designed to invite children into the colourful world God had made, to develop a sense of wonder at the amazing creation of which we are a part. Yet I wonder how long it will take for little minds to think: “What about the dinosaurs?”
