Phil Moore - Straight to the heart of Jeremiah and Ezekiel: 60 bite-sized insights
Monarch Books ISBN 978 0 8571 986 6 272 pages £9.99
This is one of a series of books written to cover the whole Bible. Some 23 books have been published so far, covering all the New Testament and a major part of the Old Testament. This book gives us 60 bite-sized sections on Jeremiah, Lamentations and Ezekiel. These are biblical books that sit on a road less travelled. The Old Testament prophets can seem from long ago and far away. In addition, they can contain complicated language, bizarre scenes, and impenetrable visions.
Phil Moore proves to be a reliable guide to the riches crammed into these books. While these are not verse by verse commentaries, but they do bear the fruit of a careful reading of Scripture and extensive reading. He is a good explainer who is able to compress a wide range of information into a few words. This book reminds me of a combination between a Swiss Army Knife and one of those travellers who is able to pack a week’s worth of clothes into a carry-on suitcase!
The author has a good eye for the contemporary and practical implications of these books. This would be an excellent way into the world of Jeremiah and Ezekiel for the general reader, but preachers would also find a lot of stimulating help here.
