Jools Holland jazzes up Abide With Me in aid of cathedral appeal

Musician and broadcaster Jools Holland, who has become one of the UK’s best loved pianists and band leaders through his live concerts and TV work over the last 40+ years, has recorded a jazzy version of the vintage hymn Abide With Me to help raise funds to support Rochester Cathedral.

Vice patron at the Rochester Cathedral Trust and a music patron at the cathedral, he has been a longstanding supporter of the historic building.

Holland also played a charity concert at the Cathedral in 2007 to raise funds to preserve Cathedral music and upkeep similar buildings.

He said at the time: "The plight of these stunning buildings is something that is close to my heart, and to me. Cathedrals are the greatest buildings in Christendom."

In launching their special appeal, a Rochester Cathedral spokesman added: “Rochester Cathedral is a sanctuary we can ill afford to lose. A place of prayer, worship, love and hope for over 1,400 years, it is totally reliant on raising its own income. With your support now, people will be able to gather here for many more years to come. Please donate to help us keep it open. Thank you.”
