New CEO appointed at Global Connections
Global Connections (Evangelical Mission Association) has announced the appointment of John Baxter-Brown as their next Chief Executive Officer.
John, or JBB as he is commonly known, is currently Senior Advisor on Evangelism to the World Evangelical Commission. He will take up his new post on a full-time basis at the beginning of November 2018.
He will continue to be based in Salisbury, where he is a member of St Paul’s Church and lives with his wife, Pippa, two dogs and numerous bonsai trees. They have two daughters who are at university.
JBB brings wide experience of mission and evangelism to this post. He has worked throughout the world, both engaged in and researching mission in different contexts. He has seen churches grow and flourish, witnessing first-hand the work of mission agencies and church leaders, and has taught missiology in universities and colleges in the UK and abroad.
He has spoken in schools, pubs and clubs, universities, colleges, youth groups, street corners and churches as an evangelist and teacher in his work for local churches through to global Christian bodies. JBB has written numerous articles and books, as well as helping draft some recent significant missiological documents.
His research includes evangelism through the eyes of Jesus, a study of Jesus' method of evangelism in the gospels and what makes for effective evangelism. He is committed to the central idea that the Church must be at the heart of mission – and mission at the heart of the Church.
JBB says he is honoured to be appointed and hopes to "encourage the churches of the UK, and the mission agencies that serve them, to become even more engaged with the challenge and privilege of world mission."
"We live in extraordinary times," he says, "when the churches are called to live out the good news of Jesus in word, deed and character, so that the world may believe in the saving message of Jesus."
Ray Porter, Chair of the Global Connections Board, says: “We have been through a long journey towards this appointment. We believe that in JBB we now have someone who can lead the whole network forward as we seek to play our part in fulfilling the Great Commission.”
