Talking Jesus video-based training course now out
HOPE have announced the launch of the Talking Jesus training course, following 18 months of filming across the UK.
Talking Jesus – The Course has taken 18 months and hundreds of hours in filming. The conversational presentation style, inspired by the documentary Coast, has taken HOPE to dozens of different locations to interview people about how they talk about Jesus.
The film-makers and presenters have climbed mountains, trudged through snow, sipped smoothies in street markets and taken golf lessons in central London. Roy Crowne and Yemi Adedeji even learned make bread!
We have invested heavily in this unique mission training project because we saw the way the Talking Jesus research boosted confidence among Christians when they realised that non-Christians know us and like us, and many want to know more when we talk about Jesus.
KingsGate Community Church in Peterborough, with its four sites and 2,000+ congregation, is already running the pilot course. When they showed the trailer (below) and explained that the course would be starting in homegroups, 20 new people signed up that day to join the groups.
Dave Smith, the senior pastor, said, "We wanted a video-based course to prepare each member of our church to make the most of every opportunity to share their faith. This creative and engaging course fits the bill."
Talking Jesus – The Course includes six practical, video-based teaching sessions with inspirational testimonies to give real-life examples from people who are talking about their faith in Jesus in everyday life. There are also short parable-style films designed to get you thinking -– KingsGate have been using them on Sundays alongside Talking Jesus sermons to get the whole church involved.
The course pack also includes a 44-page course booklet – extra copies of the booklet can be ordered for small groups. Six sermon outlines will be available later this summer to use alongside the course.
The Diocese of Chichester has ordered 500 copies of the course. Revd Rob Dillingham, Deputy Director of Apostolic Life in the Diocese said, "It will empower people to be able to talk naturally about their faith and this is why I want to give every parish a copy."
Lynn Green, General Secretary of the Baptist Union of Great Britain, adds: "Jesus tells us to 'Go!' and gives us family, friends and colleagues who are open to hearing more about faith. This course will inspire Christians with the confidence to talk to people about following Jesus."
