Gospel musical brings taste of Caribbean to Stockwell
Written and directed by the multi-talented face of black British comedy, Angie Le Mar returns to the Stockwell Playhouse, London, from April 3-14 with her hit gospel musical Take Me Back.
After two sell-out runs, Angie is excited by the success the show has experienced: "I grew up in the Pentecostal church, and have always loved church. The singing and music was special to me, and little did I know the experience was common to many."
Take Me Back tells the story of Patricia and Andrea, two young girls whose friendship was formed whist attending church with their mothers, but whose life lead them down different and painful paths.
Angie is no stranger to writing hit shows. Her productions includes The Brothers (featuring Richard Blackwood from Eastenders and Charles Venn from Casualty); Funny Black Women on the Edge (with Chizzy Akudolu from Holby City and Strictly Come Dancing), Forty and Do you Know Where Your Daughter Is?
Take Me Back features a phenomenal cast (previously unknown and discovered by Angie through workshops), and awesome singing. It's a show that will get you on your feet and take you to church!
The play also captures an authentic flavour of the Caribbean community in Britain, of particular poignancy as the UK is set to celebrate the 70th anniversary of The Windrush in June 2018. Public demand has encouraged a UK national tour for Take Me Back and tickets are available at http://bit.ly/TMBAPRIL
An after-show discussion about issues raised in Take Me Back will be held on April 12, 2018.
