Durham: events mark Luther and the Reformation

A range of events to mark the 500th anniversary of the Reformation are planned in Durham from 27-29 October …

From 27-29 October the Cathedral joins with the Meissen Library at Durham University and local churches to mark the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther's nailing of the 95 Theses to the church door in Wittenburg on 31 October 1517.

This is the event credited with setting the Reformation in motion – that is the break from the Roman Catholic Church and the start of the Protestant movement.

Friday 27 October, 1.30pm-4.30pm, Bill Bryson Library, Durham University – Meissen in Durham: Marking the Reformation

Saturday 28 October, 10am-3pm, Prior's Hall  Study Day – The Reformation and the Church in England

Sunday 29 October, the cathedral will draw on the rich liturgical heritage of the Reformation in worship throughout the day – Special Services – Reformation Sunday
