Crowds pack St Paul's to hear Poirot actor read Gospel

More than 2000 people packed into St Paul's Cathedral this week to hear actor David Suchet deliver a dramatic reading of Mark's Gospel ...

It was an event so huge (around 2,300 in attendance) that the rumour was apparently circulating amongst those outside that Beyoncé was performing a secret show!

The reading lasted for two hours without interval or break and David stood the entire time, never faltering and only taking one sip of water.

Twitter lit up with news of the reading as people experienced David’s fresh and dynamic delivery of the Gospel. David’s fee for the event and also his royalty for the full NIV recording are donated to charity.

Hodder recently released the NIV Audio Bible in One Year read by David Suchet, arranged into daily readings to help you listen to the complete Bible in one year. In this six MP3 CD set, there is a portion from the Old Testament, the New Testament and the Psalms or Proverbs each day – each on separate tracks to keep navigation simple. David explains why he decided to take on this project here:

David Suchet CBE is an acclaimed British actor. He has enjoyed great success with the RSC and in London's West End. He is best known in television for his portrayal of Agatha Christie's detective Hercule Poirot. He is also a practising Anglican. Follow him on Twitter @David_Suchet
