Resources for churches to use with classic Disney film
New resources are available for churches to tie in with the cinema release next week of Disney's Pete's Dragon ...
Disney’s Pete’s Dragon (in UK cinemas on August 12) is the adventure of an orphaned boy named Pete and his best friend Elliott, who just so happens to be a dragon.
This mainstream family film from Disney explores themes of faith, family and trust. As the character Mr Meacham (played by Robert Redford in the film) says: "If you go through life only seeing what’s in front of you, you’re going to miss out on an awful lot."
EthosMedia.org (co-founded by Nick and Carol Pollard) have been working together with Disney, CPO, Hope Together, Home for Good and Urban Saints to create a free Family Activity Book and All-Age Service Resource based around Pete’s Dragon, and freely available to download from www.EthosMedia.org/PetesDragon as well as printed copies from CPO.
The Family Activity Book helps families and communities of all different types to explore together the themes of faith and family that are so evident in Pete’s Dragon. The vision of Ethos Media is that people will invite family, friends and neighbours to join them to watch Pete’s Dragon and then come back to their house to share together in fun, food and reflection.
Activities in this free book include colouring, physical games, craft, quizzes and food. They are all suitable for children or a mixed-age audience, and are particularly ideal for bringing the generations together. This Family Activity Book is available for download from www.EthosMedia.org/PetesDragon where you can also request any number of free printed copies to be sent to you by CPO.
The All-Age Service Resource contains film clips, talk outlines and activities to explore the concepts of faith and trust that are raised by Pete’s Dragon.
Ethos Media have taken four relevant clips from Pete’s Dragon and created four separate resources for five-minute all-age slots, which can also be combined together, with appropriate songs and prayers, for a whole all-age service. This free All-Age Service Resource is available for download from www.EthosMedia.org/PetesDragon.
