CPO is temporarily closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

For over half a century, CPO has stood alongside churches and Christian organisations to help them reach those beyond their doors. The Church is currently being required to preach God’s message to our nation in new ways. At CPO, we believe that this is sowing the seeds of a huge new opportunity: to embrace a church beyond walls. Communications will play a foundational role in that. We’ve collaborated on a resource to support you as you adapt to this new landscape – covid.churcheshandbook.co.uk. Please also sign up to our Reach email if you haven’t already, so we can let you know when we are up and running again.

Royal Mail has issued Christmas stamps since 1966. From 2005 it introduced a policy of alternating secular with religious designs each year, and 2015 is a religious year. The stamps tell the traditional Nativity story in an impressionistic style, from the Annunciation, through to the Nativity and journey of the Magi.

The Christmas 2015 stamps feature scenes from the Biblical story of the Nativity, painted by artist David Holmes, with art direction and design by Studio David Hillman. The images are as follows:

2nd Class and 2nd Class Large: The journey to Bethlehem
1st Class and 1st Class Large: The Nativity
£1.00: The animals of the Nativity
£1.33: The shepherds
£1.52: The three wise men
£2.25: The Annunciation

Presentation Pack

The presentation pack, designed by Together and illustrated by David Holmes, features a large image of the Nativity on the front; on the rear, the imagery of Christmas serves as inspiration for seasonal meditations written by Dr Rowan Williams, the former Archbishop of Canterbury and Master of Magdalene College, Cambridge. The topics covered include the Star of Bethlehem, shepherds, angels, the flight to Egypt and Christmas globes, all illustrated by David Holmes.

First Day Cover

The First Day Cover designed by Together, features a watercolour illustration that complements the stamps, alongside the title of the stamp issue, ‘Christmas 2015’. The Tallents House postmark features a graphic representation of a star and the alternative postmark features a representation of Bethlehem. The post mark location is Bethlehem, Llandeilo, as is usual for Christmas.

Nine Cards in set – each of the stamp cards features an enlarged image of a stamp from this issue, with the last card in the set showing the miniature sheet in its entirety.

Generic Sheet

The Christmas 2015 generic sheet features illustrations by David Holmes alongside quotations from the King James Version of the Bible related to the Nativity.
