Exeter CRE: the laugh shall be first

More than 2,000 people attended the two-day Christian Resources Exhibition South West at Westpoint, Exeter this week (10/11 Feb).
"Visitors discovered more than 100 organisations offering everything from pews to pilgrimages. Several exhibitors told us this was their best exhibition ever," said event director Bill Allen. "We felt really welcomed to the area and look forward to returning in the not-too-distant future."
Highlight of the show, opened by Rt Rev Nick McKinnel, Bishop of Crediton, was Stand Up for Jesus (right), a comedy workshop for clergy and lay preachers.
Six participants learned professional comics' tricks of the trade from trainer Bentley Browning. At the end of the day they performed stand up comedy for the first time in front of the exhibition audience.
"Despite preaching for 25 years, usually with a humorous side, I learned so much really practical stuff," said lay preacher Mark Oliver from Lanhydrock, Bodmin. "I came away buzzing from the experience."
The next show, CRE International (19-22 May 2015), will take place at ExCel in London for the first time.
