Love is in the air in Sunderland as the Minster prepares to take part in a nationwide attempt to set a new world record for couples reaffirming their wedding vows.
The initiative is part of Marriage Week UK, from 7-14 February, and has been organised by the BIG Promise, an initiative committed to celebrating, supporting and strengthening marriage.
The Minster is the only church the region taking part and on Saturday (8 February 2014), couples will be invited to reaffirm their vows before enjoying afternoon tea and light entertainment as they celebrate marriage together. The event begins at 5pm, with vow renewal at 5.15pm.
The current world record stands at 1,087 couples. In order to count as record-breakers, couples will need to bring their wedding certificate and one other form of photo ID.
The Rev Fiona Collin, a newly ordained Curate at the Minster, said: “This event will offer couples the opportunity to celebrate and share their good news stories.
"My husband Neil and I will be taking the opportunity reaffirming our vows at the service. We have been married for almost 32 years, and to have this opportunity to celebrate and reaffirm our commitment to each other and to God, alongside many of our Sunderland Minster friends seems perfect timing."
All enquiries from anyone wishing to take part can be made to Sunderland Minster office, 0191 565 4066.
