A Christian woman who converted from Islam – and then had to flee intense persecution in Pakistan – will be the keynote speaker at a conference organised by Release International.
‘Mary’, who faced rejection from her family and friends for changing her faith, will be telling her story at the heart2heart conference in Orpington, Kent, on June 22.
Chairing the conference will be Emma Dipper, fresh from a fact-finding trip to discover more about the country many consider the worst persecutor of Christians in the world – North Korea. Emma, who heads up Release Women for RI, has been gathering the moving stories of Christian women defectors who had to leave their homeland.
Another speaker from Release will be outlining the ongoing situation in Nigeria, where Islamist militants have been attacking Christians and churches in an attempt to impose strict Sharia (Islamic) law.
"But don’t think for a moment it’s all bad news," says Emma Dipper. "What we find time and again – despite the harshest persecution – is a radiant, hope-filled, overcoming faith. And we really need to catch that here in the UK! So our aim is to help women in Britain connect with their suffering sisters across the world – not just to be moved by them and pray for them, but to be inspired by them.
"That’s why our theme for the conference is Showers of Blessing. We’ll be worshipping together, hearing stories from these brave women and praying in small groups for our persecuted family in Pakistan and North Korea."
The Release Women heart2heart conference takes place on June 22 from 10am to 3.30pm at Orpington Baptist Church, Station Road, Orpington, Kent BR6 0RZ. Lunch will be provided. The admission cost is £5, payable at the door. Attendees are asked to register in advance on email@example.com or by phoning Release on 01689 823491.
Through its international network of missions Release International serves persecuted Christians in more than 30 countries around the world, by: supporting pastors and Christian prisoners, and their families; supplying Christian literature and Bibles; and working for justice.
