Evangelist Luis Palau made history at the highest level of Paraguay's Parliament, boldly preaching the gospel and leading the Senate in prayer ...

Palau became the first non-member to be invited to speak during a session of the Paraguayan Senate, during last month’s Palau Festival in Paraguay. The Senate is the Upper House of Paraguay’s National Congress, or parliament.

He caused consternation as he did so. After giving a clear Gospel message to the senators, Luis asked if he could lead them all in prayer. But neither they nor the president of the Senate knew if this breached protocol. So Luis took the initiative and prayed anyway. And most of the 45 senators bowed their heads or stood up from their seats to join in.

The Senate visit was only one of several highlights of the event. Luis, who is from Argentina and so speaks fluent Spanish, also held meetings at the Ministry of Defence and the Supreme Court, and with the Vice-President of Paraguay, Federico Franco and the Mayor of Asuncion, the capital city.

Attendances at the two-night open air Festival in Asuncion topped 80,000 on one night, with many thousands giving their lives to Christ. Two well known Christian footballers playing in Paraguay, Maxi Biancucci (cousin of Lionel Messi) and Javier Villarreal, gave their testimonies. The mission was also covered extensively in all five of Paraguay’s national newspapers.
