INSPIRE has teamed up with popular Devon-based holiday and retreat centre Lee Abbey for a great competition ...

Lee Abbey can be found nestled in 280 acres of sprawling woodland, streams, moorland, farmland and coastline in the dramatic Exmoor National Park.

A Christian community, Lee Abbey hosts a conference, retreat and holiday centre, where individuals and groups can be renewed and inspired by God.

“We minister to more than 6,000 guests a year and our international community is made up of members from 18 different countries including Sri Lanka, South Korea, Uganda and many other parts of the world,” explained Business Director Rob Kitchen.

“Our ethos is to renew and refresh both the church and the individual, and we do that not only in the UK but on a global scale too. Our community’s diverse backgrounds and ages ensure that there is always a fresh, new way of meeting with God.”

Lee Abbey is a popular destination for breaks, offering a selection of events ranging from Bible teaching to creative arts, walking, healing, family activities and even silent retreats.

“We lead on three points,” Rob explained. “We seek to take our guests ‘Deeper into Community’, ‘Deeper into the Countryside’ and ‘Deeper into God’.”

Visitors to Lee Abbey can enjoy guest speakers and activities whilst also being involved in the community and benefiting from its combination of diverse backgrounds, ages and experiences.
Alternatively, guests can just come to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings, making use of the fantastic and inspiring landscape.

“We care deeply about the countryside and appreciate God’s canvas and outdoor chapel,” Rob explained. “One third of the electrical power used is sourced from our own hydroelectric plant, while the remainder comes from renewable sources.”

Lee Abbey’s third point, ‘Deeper into God’ can be described through the ‘spiritual thinness’ of the place, where God’s influence can be felt very closely.

2016 will be a special year for Lee Abbey and will mark its 70th anniversary. In celebration and preparation for the next 70 years, the main house has been refurbished with 45 new en-suite bed spaces being created.
