'God helped me through charity swim'

A Christian from West Sussex has completed a cross-Channel length swim ... in her local pool ...

A West Sussex Christian who has run marathons in the past – and is a full-time carer for her elderly grandmother – has completed a 22-mile swim equivalent to crossing the Channel, in her local pool.

Davina Snook, 35, from Chichester, swam the distance in 17 hours 20 minutes at Westgate Leisure Centre in three sessions over three days from 29 November to 1 December 2014. Her target is to raise £500 for Aspire, a charity who supports people with spinal injuries, and at time of writing she is halfway there.

Davina, a member at Grace Church, Chichester, has been variously a teacher, carer and youthworker both in the UK and abroad, and has had active involvement in endurance sports (four marathons, a 10k run and a tandem parachute jump, all for charity) despite a couple of operations following gymnastic and skiing accidents.

She says: "The swim was great fun and it was wonderful to have the opportunity to help others while doing something I really enjoy. Philippians 4: 13 'I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me' was a real inspiration, especially during the last few hours!

"I encourage anyone who is going through a difficult or challenging time to know God is with you and will help you all the way. As it says in Nehemiah 8: 10 'The joy of the Lord is our strength'."
