Counties are set to welcome new trainee evangelists over the coming months, based in Devon and Hertfordshire, with two particularly working with offenders and ex-offenders ...

Kim and Jo Hobbs (right), of Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, will get underway from 1 August, while Beverley Bedford (below), of Barnstaple, North Devon, will start on 1 September. A further evangelist is also set to be appointed and will start in 2015.

Kim and his wife Jo will be working with offenders and ex-offenders both in and out of prison in their home county, where Kim has long seen the “revolving door” of those in the criminal justice system from when he was a practice director for a London based criminal law firm.

“There is no solid solution from the system for offenders,” said Kim. “It is a cliché but people do become institutionalised and the only way for them to make a change which lasts is to get alongside them, care for them, befriend them and share the Gospel with them.”

Beverley, who went back to university as a busy mum to retrain as a nurse, is originally from Ballymena in Northern Ireland but has lived in Scotland and for the last 20 years in North Devon.

“I arrived in the area in 1992 as part of the Faith Mission, which worked in rural areas, with evangelists living in villages and providing missions work for both adults and children. This is where I met my husband Bryan and have been here ever since,” said Beverley.

Over the last nine months she has undergone an apprentice course at her home church in Barnstaple, studying scripture, theology and the practical aspects of evangelism.

Chief executive of Counties, John Wilkes said: “It is fantastic that Beverley, Kim and Jo have made the commitment to serve the Lord in their communities. They will have a huge impact on their area and our prayers are with them as they embark on this exciting journey.”

“We are thrilled that Beverley, Kim and Jo have responded to God’s call and stepped out in faith to serve in their communities. They will be trusting the Lord to make a lasting impact as they introduce people to Jesus.”
