Bishop of London Richard Chartres and actress Lynda Bellingham were amongst the many that gathered at London's internet church, St Stephen Walbrook, as part of an initiative with the Christian channel, Premier.tv
, to broadcast a series of regular services from the heart of the London.
The first of these programmes - Christmas @the Internet Church
- will be presented by the Venerable Peter Delaney, Archdeacon of London and will feature an interview with Lynda Bellingham and a Christmas blessing to his diocese from the Bishop of London.
"As part of our new online initiative, this Christmas, St Stephen Walbrook would like to extend their message of goodwill beyond their regular congregation, in the City of London, to all internet users through the Christian IPTV channel, Premier.tv."
The Venerable Peter Delaney, Archdeacon of London commented: "Our vision is to create a truly virtual church that can be accessed through the internet, 24 hours a day, and will be able to offer sermons, services, prayer and Christian community to all visitors."
The brainchild of Rev Dr Peter Elvy, St Stephen Walbrook will be officially launching the Internet Church this Christmas. "London's Internet Church is believed to be the first of its kind in the capital. With support from both the Bishop of London and the Archdeacon of London, and a partnership with Christian media specialists, Premier.tv, we hope St Stephen Walbrook will flourish as London's Internet Church."
The historical church, designed by Sir Christopher Wren will be the first church in England dedicated to producing virtual services for Christians across the world over the internet.
Available on demand exclusively from Premier.tv, Christmas @the Internet Church will be broadcast from 23 December.
