Street Angels founder awarded MBE
The founder of the highly successful Street Angels initiative, Paul Blakey, has been awarded an MBE in the New Year 2010 Honours List.
The Member of the Order of the British Empire Award was presented for services to community safety in Halifax. Paul founded the faith-based Street Angels just over four years ago. The project still has teams of volunteers patrolling the streets of Halifax on Friday and Saturday nights to ensure the safety of those in the town centre.
The project has helped to reduce violent crime and has assisted nearly 40 other towns and cities across the country to launch similar projects.
Paul (left) said of his Award: "To receive the MBE is a testimony to all Street Angels and the amazing teams of volunteers and all they have achieved, not only in Halifax but in towns and cities across the UK. Street Angels is a very simple idea that is God inspired and works, I am overwhelmed and humbled to receive this accolade."
The investiture will take place within the next five months at Buckingham Palace.
