Barnet churches deliver hampers to spread some Christmas cheer
Churches across the London Borough of Barnet are getting ready to spread some cheer this Christmas by putting together thousands of Christmas hampers. These will be delivered to families in need living in the borough.
A church spokesperson at Jesus House, one of the churches involved explained: “Last year we
decided to touch the lives of local residents over the Christmas season and distributed over 1,500 food hampers in the West Hendon and Colindale areas. People greatly appreciated this small gesture, so we felt it would be a good thing to repeat the exercise this year, and distribute hampers to people in need right across the borough.”
The food hampers will contain seasonal Christmas foods which will be distributed on 12 December.
The spokesperson continued: “This year has been particularly difficult for many families with the impact of the recession biting hard. Many people have lost jobs and are bracing themselves for a difficult festive season. It is great that more churches have joined forces to make a positive difference to people’s lives.”
Helen Shannon from St Barnabas Church in Finchley commented: “Christmas is the season of love and goodwill. As Christians we don’t just want to speak about Jesus’ love, we also want to show it by our actions. Our hope is that through these Christmas hampers people will see that love is more than a word - true love is best expressed by giving.”
