Peniel church leader steps down after admitting adultery
Bishop Michael Reid, head of Peniel Church, Peniel Academy and Michael Reid Ministries, has resigned after admitting adultery ...
His ministry's website, and other sites associated with Peniel Church, carried the following message from the Rev Peter Linnecar, who has taken over leadership of the church:
"This is not an easy message to write, nor will it be an easy message to read. The news I have to tell you is that on Saturday 5th April Bishop Michael Reid tendered his resignation from the church board and stepped down from pastoral duties in the church. The reason is that he has sinned by committing adultery and he has unreservedly apologised for what he had done and has taken full responsibility for his actions.
"He has gone away with his wife for a time of reflection and I would ask that you remember him, his family and the church in your prayers at this difficult time.
"I have been a senior pastor in the ministry for 30 years and at the request of the church board, and with their full support, I have taken on the pastoral duties of the church.
"We believe the gospel of Jesus Christ and that our God is a God of love, forgiveness and restoration from all sin.
"Our work here continues - the Gospel has not changed and our heart’s desire is still to reach the lost.
"I hope that you will find it in your heart to continue to support this ministry and God’s work here.
We’ll keep in touch and let you know how things are going and if you have any questions please contact us."
Mr Linnecar added: "Bishop Reid has been a servant of this church for 32 years. We are deeply sorry that this has happened. He has recognized his sin and taken full responsibility for his actions and resigned. We believe the gospel of Jesus Christ and that our God is a God of love, forgiveness and restoration from all sin and we would ask that you pray for all concerned and respect privacy at this difficult time."
