I was interested to read today that researchers at Newcastle University have concluded there may be a good reason our fingers and toes wrinkle when immersed in water for a while: grip.
Their investigations have discovered that wet objects are easier to handle with wrinkled fingers than with smooth, dry ones. And the wrinkles may have evolved in our ancestors as they foraged for food in wet vegetation or streams.
These wrinkles seem to be caused by blood vessels constricting in reaction to the water – a response controlled by the body's nervous system.
It's just a reminder to me about the incredible design God has put into the human body. We don't know the half of what we've got – or what we're capable of.
