I'm a great fan of those who use their imagination to find different ways of telling people about Jesus. And sometimes it's the most unlikely of combinations that makes the breakthrough.
So I was delighted to hear about the ministry of Rev Elvis (right), aka Rev Andy Kelso. For 20 years, Andy was vicar of Christ Church, Matchborough, in Redditch. When he left, he sensed God calling him to something different, but he didn't know what.
"I kept asking God what he wanted me to do with the gifts He had given me. I heard nothing for months! Then one day whilst walking my dog and praying, I felt God say 'Take Elvis to the churches!''
Andy, now chaplain to Worcester Warriors Rugby Club, now takes his unique Elvis Presley Gospel Tribute Act to churches to help them build bridges with people, and he finds time and again that people's love of Elvis coupled with his fun but powerful set of the best of Elvis (including rock, ballads and gospel) draws them closer to God.
He loves reaching people who would never come to church, and is in demand for functions and events. One event lined up will see Rev Elvis live by Pershore Abbey on 4 June, as part of the Jubilee Celebrations.
