Chariots of Fire – remastered and out before the 2012 Games

04 May 2012

Attended a preview up in London recently of the classic film Chariots of Fire, which is returning to UK cinemas in July in a new digitally remastered version, just in time for the 2012 Games.

If you don't remember it from back in the 1980s, it's the inspiring true story of Eric Liddell, Harold Abrahams and the British Olympic team of 1924, who delivered gold medals on the track in the midst of some intriguing personal stories – particularly in the case of 'the Flying Scotsman' Liddell, who agonised over the tension between his call to missionary work and his talent for running like the wind.

The film feels a little 'of its time' in places, but still is an entertaining watch and with lots of strong Christian content. And of course, there's the Vangelis theme tune which, if memory serves, someone has pinched for a Christian worship song ...

Damaris are working with distributors Twentieth Century Fox and offering free resources for churches to make the most of the opportunity. You can register for yours at www.damaris.org/chariots

Why not take a look and see if you can take a group from your church? And let me know if you've any memories of the film – or links with Eric Liddell ...
